In the Name of Allah the Merciful Beneficient

...

4:44         [O, Messenger!] Have you not regarded those who have been given a portion of the Book*1? They purchase error for themselves and wish that you too go astray from the Right Path;

4:45         [God] knows your enemies [much better than you do] and [God] is sufficient as a protector, and as a Helper.

4:46         Some of the Yahudis [the Jews] deliberately displace words from their original places [to alter the meaning] and [for example] they say [to the Messenger]: "We heard your word and we disobeyed" [or they say:]"Hear and let you hear nothing!" Or they say: "Raena"*2 with a twist of their tongues and a taunt to Islam; and if [instead] only they [had said:] "Do have consideration for us to understand what you recite", it would have been better for them and more proper; [God] has cursed them for their disbelief; so they will not believe except a few of them.

4:47         O you who have been given the Scripture! Believe in what We have revealed now [to Our Messenger] confirming what is in the Scripture with you, before we efface the faces by setting them backwards, or curse you as we cursed the Sabbath-breakers.*3 And verily, [God]'s Ordainment is always carried out:

4:48         Verily, [God] does not forgive those who set up partners with [It] excluding their [grave sin], [It] forgives anything else to whom [It] Wills, and whosoever sets up partner with [God] in worship, he has forged a lie which is the gravest and unforgivable sin.

4:49         [O, Messenger!] Have you not regarded those who claim sanctity for themselves? Nay, only [God] is the One who sanctifies whomsoever [It] Wills; and the people will never be dealt with injustice  even in the least.

4:50         [O, Messenger!] Behold! How they forge a lie against [God] and that itself is enough as an obvious sin [for punishing them;]

4:51         Have you not observed those who have been given a portion of the Scripture, how they believe in the idols and Satan? When they say about the idolaters: "These people are far better guided than those who believe in Islam."

4:52         Those [who utter this kind of shameful words] are the ones whom [God] has cursed; and those whom [God] had cursed, you shall not find any helper for them at all;

4:53         Or have they, [the Jews] a share in the kingdom of the world? But then [if they had] they would not give to the people even as the speck in the date-stone;

4:54         Or are they jealous of the honored people [such as the Messenger of Islam and his family] for the Grace that [God] had bestowed upon them? We [also] bestowed upon the people of Abraham the Book of Wisdom and We gave them a mighty kingdom [as well];

4:55         Some of them believed in him*4 and some of them have [stood against him and his Mission];*5 and sufficient for the disbelievers is the Blazing Fire of Hell;
