In the Name of Allah the Merciful Beneficient

4:29         O, you who believe! Do not devour each other's wealth in vanity and illegal way. The profit obtained should be from trading based on mutual consent. And do not kill yourself [and your fellow creatures] since [God] is highly merciful*1 towards you, people;

4:30         And whoever does that, out of aggression and injustice, We shall cast him into the Hell Fire and that is an easy matter for [God].

4:31         If you avoid the grave sins which you are forbidden to do, We will remit from you, your small misdeeds and admit you to the Glorious Gate.

4:32         And do not wish the bounty which [God] by bestowing it, has raised some of you above others: To the men a share from what they have earned and to the women a share from what they have earned; and ask [God Itself] of [Its] Bounty [whatever you wish and need]. Verily, [God] is the Knower of all Things.

4:33         To everyone We have appointed heirs to property left by parents and relatives. And [also] with whom you have made a covenant, give to them their portion. Verily, [God] is Ever-Witness over all things.

4:34         Men are overseers and maintainers of women because [God] has made one of them excel to the other, and because they [the husbands] provide the livelihood of the family. Therefore, righteous women are obedient and guard in the husband's absence what [God] orders them to guard.*2 As to whose women on whose part you see ill-conduct, admonish them [First], [next] refuse to share their beds, [and last] beat then lightly,*3 but if they return to obedience, do not seek against them means of annoyance; Verily, [God] is the Sublime Great.

4:35         And if you fear a breach between the couple, then appoint an arbitrator [chosen] from his family and an arbitrator [chosen] from her family; if they both desire to refine their relationship, [God] will effect harmony between the couple. Verily, [God] is the Informed Knowing.

1- Some of [God's] Attributes stand as example of man's self-cultivation; hence, Merciful stands against harsh, cruel and unjust.

2- Chastity, husband's property and honor

3- as lightly as Job was Commanded: to punish his wife only with a delicate [branch] or plant 38:44
